This summer kitchen from the
shores of Lake George at Pilot Knob in Washington County was built in
1904 on the site of the Old Oakley Farm in Fort Ann.
Originally the camp consisted of this building and another one the same
size, which was a bunkhouse.
In 1921 Wilfred Brodeur and
a partner started and built the Adirondack Dairy in Glens Falls, on the
corner of Ridge and Sanford Streets. The building is now known as The
Time Warner Cable Company.
Mr. Brodeur purchased the
camp on May 8, 1934. When the sale was finalized he went home and told
his wife Rose that he had taken care of it and that he didn’t feel
well. Two weeks later he died.
The blue cupboard in the
kitchen was there when The Brodeur’s purchased the camp. They cooked on
a kerosene stove and used kerosene lamps. There was an icebox buried in
the ground on the south side of the building.
In 1936 glass windows and
electricity were added to the camp.
